Kindred Spirit

Over the past few months, Walt White over at Walt in PA has been blogging extensively about his USPSA shooting experience. In fact, he and I have corresponded a lot recently, via email and Twitter, so I thought, if my readers like my stuff, they should go check out his.
He’s gone from an unclassified shooter last year to becoming a C Class Production shooter. I’m D Class, in Production.
He shoots a Glock 17. I shoot a Glock 17.
He makes video of his matches. I make video of my matches. (His are a lot better. I covet his head-cam.)
He’s a architectural designer-drafter by trade. I’m a recovering engineer turned headhunter.
We have a lot in common.
Even our approach to shooting is similar. Take a recent post he had about his goals for shooting USPSA. Good stuff.
Go check him out, and while you’re at it, subscribe to his podcast on iTunes* and follow him on Twitter.
* Sorry, I don’t have the doohickey that does that. But go to iTunes and search for “Walt in PA.” You’re a grown-up.

Blogmeet AAR

I was privileged to spend yesterday evening in the company of a number of other bloggers, for dinner and drinks and discourse, all arranged by Mr. and Mrs. Borepatch. The catalyst for it all was Sean Sorrentino’s visit from North Carolina on business. We were joined by Robert of the Second Amendment and Liberty blog, and his wife, and by TerriLiGunn of the ReloadNRetry blog.

As you can imagine from such a diverse crew, the conversation was literally all over the place. Some of the topics included:

Sean’s recent vacation in Europe. Suffice to say I am glad I live in the USA; how we got into shooting, and he we got involved in blogging; military experience, some overt and some covert; the absurdity of languages that assign gender to nouns; hair and lack of it; and how to deal with anti-gunners’ apoplexy over why we choose to carry a gun (thanks to Tam for supplying the consensus approach).

Interestingly absent from the discussions was any kind of caliber preference, either via rifle or handgun. I think we agreed tacitly that the best gun is the one you have.

We are starting to plan some kind of Georgia Blogger Shoot later this spring or summer. We are looking for suitable outdoor venues, and will be exploring them. In the meantime, suggestions are welcome.

A Little Housecleaning

I spent some time this past week reading every blog on my blog list. You will note that some of the bloggers there I have had the pleasure of meeting, and others I read even though we’ve never met.

Sadly, a few blogs are missing. Some are still there but have chosen to stop posting new material, like Breda and North. I will be looking for new blogs to link to, so if you know of some good ones, let me know by comment or email.

Although it may seem like it sometimes, I haven’t abandoned my blog. I have been going through a few things at home recently, that limit my time on the Interwebz.

Thank you to all who continue to read.

A Year Already?

It occurred to me last night that I started writing this blog March 22, 2011. Hard to believe it’s been a year already.

Beyond writing about shooting for the everyday citizen, I really had no clear vision or goal of what I wanted to do with this blog when I started, and I’m happy to report that I’ve hit dead on 100% of the time with that.

Thank you to all my readers and followers. If you like what you read, pass it on. If you don’t, let me know, and, better, let me know what else you’d like to see. Remember, though, it has to fit with my vision and goals.

Thanks again!
